VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
Akina Mama wa Afrika (AMwA) is an international, non-governmental
development organisation for African women based in the UK with an
East/Horn of Africa sub-regional office in Kampala, Uganda.
AMwA was founded in 1985 by a group of African women resident in the
UK. Translated from Swahili, the name means `solidarity among
African women', signifying African sisterhood. AMwA coordinates
local, regional and international initiatives, and builds the
individual and organisational leadership capacities of African women
through leadership development programs, networking,information and
advocacy. AMwA serves as a resource and research forum on issues
affecting African women.
AMwA is hereby seeking an African woman who is a motivated self-
starter, to fill the following post:
UK Programmes Manager (Full-time 35 hours per week)
£24,897-£26,628 inclusive of London Weighting
Contract initially for two years
The post holder will strengthen, run and manage AMwA's Programmes
for African women's organisations in the UK and assist with the
implementation of AMwA's Strategic Plan.
The candidate will be a motivated self-starter with at least
three years experience of working in or with the UK voluntary sector,
fundraising,policy development and at management level. In addition
the candidate must have knowledge of organisational development
issues affecting African women's organisations in the UK, excellent
interpersonal, writing and presentation skills and the ability to
work to tight deadlines.
This post is funded by ALG and Community Fund.

This post entails provision of personal services for African women.
