Regional Manager for West Africa
£30,625 per annum
This is a new and exciting opportunity to lead, develop, manage and have
responsibility for development, emergency, advocacy, policy and campaign work
for the West Africa region. You would be responsible for the processes of
developing, implementing and monitoring Christian id's policy and strategy for
your region.
Your experience so far must involve at least 6 years in development work,
including working or living in a developing country. You must have spent at
least 3 years in a management role, including strategic planning and budget
management and have successfully delivered project/programme objectives. You
will be able to demonstrate skills in team leadership and working effectively

Regional Manager for South America based in London

Senior Policy Officer

As part of our Asia Team you will undertake policy and advocacy work as part
of Christian Aid's overall programme. You will focus on human rights,
conflict and inter-faith dialogue and gender, providing advice to programme
staff and lobbying government and other bodies on behalf of Christian Aid and
our partners. You must have experience of development issues, preferably in
Asia and with NGO's. You must demonstrate the ability to carry out your own
research and policy development projects and be able to present your findings

Programme Funding Managers (3 posts)
Africa, Latin America & Caribbean and Asia/Middle East & Eastern Europe

Are you an articulate and numerate strategic Manager? Do you have a flair for
fundraising and can you spot and develop opportunities that fit corporate and
departmental priorities? Can you manage and develop staff, lead project teams
and balance a large portfolio of initiatives at various stages of the project
funding cycle?

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the new management structure in
the Programme Funding and Support Team (PFAST) and develop our good track
record. The team generated in excess of £10m for Christian Aid's partner
organisations' work in 2002/3, and negotiated future contracts worth £15m.

With responsibility for programme funding work with the Africa Division, Latin
America Caribbean Division or across the Asia and Middle East/Eastern Europe
Teams, you will be directly responsible for work with major institutional
donors for development, rehabilitation and rapid response emergency
programmes. This includes large and innovative programmes with DFID, the EU
and USAID. Each post will line manage up to three Programme Funding Officers
and report to the Head of PFAST. You will work on four key areas:
. Overseeing the development and implementation of funding strategies
and plans for that region
. Programme Funding contract work
. Development of CA staff and partner programme funding capacities
. Management of programme funding staff & active membership of PFAST
Management Team
All three Managers will need at least 4 years relevant experience of
development & humanitarian programmes and institutional donors (DFID and EU),
up to 2 years line management experience, a keen interest in the respective
region, excellent inter-personal & presentation skills, well developed
analytical, negotiation, writing & budgeting skills, an ability to travel to
medium/high security areas are essential. But above all motivation, drive and
enthusiasm are key. Experience working with organisations in the south is an
advantage.

Specific for Latin America: Fluent written and spoken Spanish. French or
Portuguese an advantage.
Specific for Africa: Competent written and spoken French or Portuguese an
advantage.

Emergency Response Manager
London based with travel, 1 year fixed term contract
£26,761 per annum
This is an exciting opportunity to join Christian Aid's Emergencies Team with
the primary purpose of playing a leading role in Christian Aids response to
emergencies. You will focus on supporting specific emergency responses and
improving the capacity of Christian Aid Field Offices and partner
organisations to respond to emergencies. You will be required to undertake
assessments of emergency situations and support partners and field office
staff in managing the emergency response. In conjunction with other Emergency
Team members you will also develop activities aimed at ensuring effective
emergency response by Christian Aid. You will have at least five years
overseas work experience of which two should be in managing emergency
programmes. You will have a good understanding of emergency and development
issues, SPHERE and the Red Cross and Red Crescent Code of Conduct and
experience of developing and facilitating training workshops. This post will
be based in London but will require travel to potentially high risk countries
often at very short notice. This is a 1 year fixed term contract commencing

As part of a busy publishing team you will edit and proofread fundraising,
campaigning, schools and worship publications (both print and electronic) to
ensure consistency of quality and style. You will work with in-house authors
to develop their projects, rewriting copy where necessary. With three years'
editing experience you will be meticulous and skilled at editing for different

Youth Co-ordinator
(maternity cover for up to 52 weeks)

Working with young people and youth leaders, you will inspire them to take
action on the issues of poverty and justice. With at least two years
experience in youth work, you will implement a planned programme of
activities, which range from resourcing, training and supporting youth leaders
and leading workshops on international development, to supporting a new
initiative in peer education within a church based HIV/AIDS project.
A confident communicator, you will also have an understanding of world
development issues, knowledge of church youth networks and be prepared to work
co-operatively within a small team. Knowledge and experience of peer education
work with young people would be advantageous. For this post the standard

Programme Funding Officer Africa

You will be responsible for management of large DFID and EC contracts in the
DRC and the Sahel region, other work in the DRC, Francophone West Africa and
Ghana, developing funding strategies and securing support from major
institutional donors for other development, rehabilitation and rapid response
emergency programmes in the Africa Division. You should have a keen interest
in Africa, at least 2 years relevant experience, well developed budgeting,
conceptual & report writing skills, and willingness to travel to medium/high
security areas. Fluent written and spoken French is essential. Work experience

Programme Officer Middle East, Based in London
£23,154 per annum
To be responsible for developing, administering and monitoring Christian Aid's
programmes in the Middle East and particularly in Israel and the Occupied
Territories initially, in accordance with priorities agreed with the Regional
Manager. You will be primarily responsible for identifying, building and
managing partner relationships, including support for institutional
development. Possessing sound judgement, it is essential that you are able to
represent Christian Aid in a professional, tactful and culturally sensitive
manner. You must have a good knowledge of international development issues
and is essential that you are in sympathy with the aims of Christian Aid as it
seeks to express the concerns of the Churches in relief and development and to
strengthen the poor. Knowledge of the political, economic and social context
of the Middle East including Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories
is essential.
You will be educated to degree level or equivalent and have at least three
years experience of international development work, including project and
programme management. Experience of working with, and supporting
organisations in the south is desirable. Travel to the Middle East will be

Supporter Database Services Assistant
£20,264 per annum, plus, pending review
Christian Aid's supporter database is the organisation's primary tool for
administering fundraising and supporter communications, and the processing,
reporting and analysis of supporter activity. The Database Services Unit is a
small team developed to maximise potential in these areas. Tasks carried out
by the post-holder within the unit include querying the database to extract
data for a range of marketing, communication and information purposes;
providing training and support services to database users and assisting in the
development of the supporter database. If you can demonstrate excellent
database knowledge and communication skills then this post offers a unique
opportunity to develop your expertise in a range of disciplines. Ref: 732/LE

Field Support Officer
£20,264 pa, based in London
You will provide administrative, financial and programme support for our
offices and programmes in Mali, Burkina Faso, Senegal and The Gambia. As you
will be a key contact between London and these offices, you will be able to
communicate well with colleagues at a distance and across cultures. With at
least two years general office, budget monitoring and financial analysis
experience, you will be able to set up financial and administrative systems,
analyse information and produce reports. You will also be able to manage a
demanding workload and competing priorities. Good IT skills including
spreadsheet and database and word processing are essential. Fluent written and
spoken French is required for this role. A keen interest in international

Team Administrator/PA to the Head of Churches Team
£20,264 per annum (subject to pay review)

The Churches team relates to a diverse range of churches across the UK and
Ireland, equipping and inspiring them to give, act and pray as part of a
movement for justice and the ending of poverty.
As an enthusiastic team worker, you will be responsible for developing and
delivering systems for team administration. As PA you will act with
discernment and efficiency, including contact with external commercial

Finance Officer (Cashier)
£20,264 per annum

The Finance team requires a Cashier to be responsible for the banking,
recording, control and reconciliation of all income (both sterling and foreign
currency) received by cheque, cash and postal order.
With income of this type exceeding £18 million per annum, the jobholder will
be expected to manage a heavy workload and work under pressure. The successful
candidate will be educated to A-level standard or equivalent and will possess
good communication and team-working skills.
At least 2 years' experience of work in a finance office is required,
including the use of spreadsheets and computerised accounting systems. Recent
experience of cashiering is highly desirable.

PA to the External Relations Director

We are looking for an experienced administrator to act as Personal Assistant
to the Director of External Relations. The Department handles all aspects of
Christian Aid's marketing and public profile work in the UK and Ireland,
including campaigns, publishing, fundraising, education, media, marketing and
supporter care and their links to key audiences. This post requires a
confident and enthusiastic PA, with excellent literacy, numeracy,
organisational and communication skills. He or she must have strong inter-
personal skills and the ability to deal with competing priorities.
Administrative or PA experience, fast, accurate word processing, experience of
budgets and an excellent telephone manner are essential. This is a great
opportunity to work at the heart of a busy marketing and communications

Christian Aid's Schools and Youth Team is offering an intern programme to a
dynamic individual who shares the organisation's commitment to exposing and
eradicating world poverty. You will be eager to develop a range of publishing
skills to effectively communicate Christian Aid's aims and concerns to
children, young people, teachers, youth leaders, and students.
You will be involved in researching, writing and developing a range of online
and print educational resources, seeing text through all stages of the
editorial process.
You will gain experience of working in a large international development
agency whilst supporting the Schools and Youth Team with specific
communications work.
The successful applicant will be educated to A-level or equivalent and will
possess good team-working and communication skills. You will be able to
demonstrate interest in and commitment to global development issues.
A permanent post cannot be guaranteed after the completion of this placement.

The Information Resource Center is offering one placement to a graduate
looking for practical experience prior to starting a postgraduate
qualification in Information Management in 2004, with an interest in the
voluntary sector and development issues. Christian Aid's resources centre
provides a comprehensive range of services to its staff based both in the UK
and overseas. The scheme provides varied work experience and training in a
busy specialist information centre. Excellent teamwork and communication
