International Crisis Group West Africa Intern
ICG AFRICAN INTERNSHIP SCHEME
ICG is seeking an intern to work for its West
Africa Project for a period of six months. This
internship involves working with the West Africa
Project Director providing assistance in
research, writing and editing reports on conflict
issues in this area. This paid internship would
suit someone with a recent graduate or
postgraduate degree (from an African university) in
political science, conflict studies or public administration.
Major responsibilities:
Research on core conflict issues in the region
relevant to ICG program areas; Preparation of
advocacy materials and plans; Preparation of
reports and attending meetings on behalf of the
Project Director; Preparation of draft
presentations and speaking notes; Maintain
contact with governments, academic institutes,
think-tanks, NGOs; and Administrative work
relative to the project.
Requirements:
African national from Central or Southern Africa;
A graduate or postgraduate degree in political
science, conflict studies, public administration
or similar from an African university; An
excellent verbal and written command of English
(a short writing test will be required) and good
knowledge of French; Knowledge of conflict issues
in particular of the West Africa
region; and Some experience within an
international relations/ environment/ NGO,
desirable but not compulsory.
In order to promote political exchange
sponsorship will only be granted to African
nationals who originate from anywhere in Africa
other than from a West African country, namely
Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Capa Verde, Chad,
CÙte d'Ivoire, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Eq. Guinea,
Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania,
Niger, Nigeria, Sao Tome & Pr., Senegal, Sierra Leone, Togo.
Funding provides a 1000 USD monthly stipend,
local transport costs and a return flight from
current place of residence.
