Set up in 1985, Comic Relief exists to tackle poverty and promote social justice. In seven Red Nose Days, we have raised over £170 million, every penny of which is now hard at work helping some of the poorest people across the UK and in Africa. We are looking for experienced and enthusiastic people to join our Africa grants committee, which advises our Trustees on spending this money as effectively as possible.

Africa Grants Committee Member
Set up in 1985, Comic Relief exists to tackle poverty and promote
social justice. In seven Red Nose Days, we have raised over £170
million, every penny of which is now hard at work helping some of the
poorest people across the UK and in Africa. We are looking for
experienced and enthusiastic people to join our Africa grants
committee, which advises our Trustees on spending this money as
effectively as possible.
Our grants programmes are designed to tackle poverty and promote
social justice across Africa. All the work we support is about
helping people to make lasting, positive changes in their lives and
their communities. Our grant making priorities for 2001-3 focus on
work with people affected by conflict, women and girls, people living
in towns and cities, disabled people, pastoralists and people
affected by HIV/AIDS.
We are particularly keen to attract new members with an up-to-date
knowledge of one or more of the following areas:
Conflict
Urban development
Youth
Disability
Trade
HIV/AIDS
Organisational development
Small enterprise development
We have - and want to keep - a diverse committee, and are committed
to maintaining strong African representation on the committee. We
need members who will take a challenging yet constructive approach to
delivering and developing our grants programme.
The committee usually meets once every 3 months in London with
extensive papers circulated in advance. Members are also involved in
sub-groups, providing advice to assessors on individual applications
and our regular programme reviews. We will reimburse all travel costs
and essential expenses.
