This post offers an exciting opportunity to develop a new programme working alongside Yemeni non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and civil society groups. Working specifically with local NGOs in Hodeidah you will provide training and capacity building support in organisational development, advocacy and assist LNGOs to coordinate and network with a range of stakeholders.
We are looking for an innovative and creative individual able to handle the challenges inherent in a developing country. You will have degree level qualification or equivalent diploma in a relevant discipline, and training in specific aspects of community development.
The postholder will have a minimum of three years experience with LNGOs in an advisory/support capacity. In addition, s/he should have proven experience not only in facilitation methodologies and direct training ability but also in liaising with a range of different organisations at a policy level.
Good knowledge of organisational development and capacity building within the NGO/CBO sector. In addition it is essential to understand the role which NGOs play in national and community development and advocacy,
Proven understanding of one or more areas of particular focus (human rights, women’s leadership, HIV/AIDS). S/he also needs to have skills in strategic planning and participatory monitoring methods and developed analytical, prioritising and networking skills. Good interpersonal, communication, report writing skills and gender awareness are also essential.
It is required to be computer literate and to have cultural sensitivity in an Islamic environment. The postholder also needs to be willing to undertake road travel in Yemen.
Experience of working in a resource poor environment, of specific practical community development skills, and of Arabic language skills or the willingness / ability to learn basics of Arabic are also highly desirable.
