The Watchman International Network is organizing two international conferences on "The role of NGOs in the current political climate".
Present:- International conference on the Role of NGO's in the
current political dispensation.
INTRODUCTION: Watchman International Network, Lagos, Nigeria is a
Non governmental organisation that is focused on peace promotion and
conflict Resolution at both the Regional, National and International
communities.
Since inception in 1996, Watchman International Network has been
involved in several local and International peace promotion and
conflict Resolution projects such as the peace Education among the
Fighters in liberia, Inter-religious youth programme in Oyo State
among others, Nigeria. As part of it's effort to promote peace,
stability and good governance, Watchman International Network is
organizing a two international conference on
"THE ROLE OF NGO'S IN THE CURRENT POLITICAL DISPENSATION".
This conference being put together by Watchman International Network
is aimed at informing, educating, equiping and positioning the NGO's
to properly purposefully and effectively play their role in ensuring
successful political programme especially the fast approching 2003
general election in Nigeria. The achievement of this will ensure
peace, stability and joy for all- both local and international
communities while the country can effect positively the peace,
stability and joy of all.
The importance of successful political programme especially in
Nigeria of great value to both local and international commmunities
hence the idea to organize the conference to call all and sandry to
ensure peace, stabilty and good governance in nigeria and world
through active participation of NGO's in political programmes.
The conference will attract Renowned international and local
speakers and moderators. Some o f whcih include:
i. Dr. David Noble from Australia.( Chief investtigator- commercial
reasearch projects, Associate health care service-John Dow and
Associates Inc., Regional Laison Officer-Southern-Bio Initiatives,
Conference coordinator and Debate moderator, E-conference
on "Science Communication needs for Developing Countries", a
parallel event to the international science Writers Festival.
ii. Mrs. Annie Davies from Nigeria. She is the Executive
Director of Devnet- Developmental Information Network,a coaliation
of over 150 local NGO's in Nigeria. Dev-net was formed by British
High Cimmission in Nigeria in 1994. She was a former staff of ford
foundation, Nigeria. She is a renowed activicts and speaker in many
local and international conferences.
iii. Professor A. O. Agugua of Nigeria. He is a lecturer of
Sociology at the University of Lagos, Nigeria. He is a consultant
with centre for Law Enforcement Education, Nigeria, a
non- governmental organisation based in Lagos, Nigeria. He is an
accomplished conference speaker.
iv. G.C. Ikpot of Nigeria, is the president of family federation
for world peace, Nigeria chapter. He is a recognised local and
international conference speaker.
v. Rev. H. P. Herbert of Nigeria, He is the Executive Director
of Watchman International Network, Nigeria. He is an activist in
peace promotion and conflict resolution. He has been actively
involved in several peace promotion projects and conferences,
locally and internationally. He is a conference speaker with a
difference.
vii Chijoke Odom of Nigeria. He is the former editor of several
Nigerian National Newspapers. He is presently the Assistant
Executive Director/Editor of center of Law Enforcement Education,
Nigeria. He is a prolific writer and moderator of several local and
international conferences and programmes.
The conference will hold on the 24th and 25th of October 2002 in
Lagos, Nigeria. The conference will attract over 200 participants
from local and international NGOs, governmental agencies, private
sectors and individuals from all works of life.
