Program Officer
Equality Now, Africa Regional Office, Nairobi, Kenya

Equality Now, an international human rights organisation dedicated to end violence and discrimination against women and girls globally, is looking for a Program Officer with experience in human rights work focusing on protecting the fundamental rights of women. Based in the Africa Regional Office of Equality Now, located in Nairobi (Kenya), the Program Officer will be responsible for program work in French Speaking Africa, with a particular focus on Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). She/he will report to the Africa Regional Director.

The successful candidates will be responsible for monitoring and campaigning against human rights violations against women; monitoring and assisting in the implementation of the Fund for Grassroots Activism to end FGM; assisting in the production of Awaken, Equality Now's newsletter on FGM; and establish regular contacts and liaison with organizations campaigning against violations of the human rights of women.

Required skills, knowledge and experience include: a university degree preferably in sociology, law, or international human rights; five years experience in working on human rights or working with the women's movement regionally or internationally; knowledge of human rights violations against women and international human rights instruments. In addition, candidate must be fluent in English, fluent or have considerable competence in written and spoken French. Knowledge of Arabic is desired; has ability to work effectively in a team; has excellent analytical, conceptual and writing skills and use of computers.

Competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered in addition to medical coverage for a one-year contract, with a review and possibility of renewal at the end of the contract term.
