The Association for Rural Advancement (AFRA) is a land rights NGO working with rural communities in KwaZulu-Natal on land rights and rural development issues.

DIRECTOR

Applications are invited from suitable qualified persons for the position of DIRECTOR. This individual is principally required to:

Provide dynamic and strategic leadership to AFRA in terms of its vision, policy and approach to land and agrarian reform in South Africa.

Represent AFRA’s position in various local and national forums, platforms and media.

Be accountable to AFRA Board of Directors and responsible for fundraising.

Oversee, support and direct all programme strategies, human resources, financial resources, administrative and reporting functions.

Minimum requirements

An appropriate university degree from a recognized institution, preferably in the social sciences, law or development management.

At least five years management experience in a development or human rights based organization or work.

Demonstrable leadership and strong analytical and writing capabilities;

Advocacy, lobbying and networking skills.  

Extensive experience in fundraising, financial management and narrative and financial reporting.

Understanding of and experience in land reform politics and programmes in South Africa and/or rural development issues in the sub-continent.

Computer literacy in MS Word and Excel.

Valid Drivers License (08)
