EISA's vision is the promotion of credible elections and democratic
governance in Africa. EISA has its headquarters in Johannesburg, South

Responsibilities
----------------
The incumbents will work within the Research Unit, reporting directly
to the Senior Advisor, Research and Information. Their main
responsibility will be to undertake formal research in the area of
elections, democracy and governance in the SADC region and throughout
the African continent.
Qualifications
--------------
The incumbents should have a Master of Arts Degree in the social
sciences from a recognized university or college. A Ph.D in Political
Science or International Relations will be an added advantage. A
minimum of five years working experience in an area or institution
relevant to the professional requirements outlined below is a
pre-requisite.
Professional Requirements
-------------------------
* Demonstrable research experience in political science and
international relations;
* Demonstrable publication record on elections, democracy and
governance;
* Indepth knowledge of and acquaintance with democracy debate globally
and in Africa in particular;
* Familiarity with and experience in various types of social science
research methods;
* Excellent analytical and writing skills;
* Excellent project administration and management skills;
* Understanding of financial planning and management;
* Demonstrable experience in project coordination and network
building;
* Motivational skills with demonstrable ability to take initiative and
achieve results;
* Ability to communicate clearly with colleagues and various
stakeholders;
* Excellent computer skills;
* Knowledge of or ability to learn computerised analysis packages;
* Be a team player;
* Ability to adapt to changing situations and circumstances;
* Ability to work under pressure in a flexible and autonomous
environment;
* Willingness to travel;
* Valid driver's licence.
Expected Outputs
----------------
* Initiate research ideas and prepare funding proposals;
* Undertake research and write research reports;
* Coordinate regional and continental research projects;
* Produce occasional papers and publishable articles;
* Prepare donor reports;
* Prepare internal activity reports;
* Organise seminars, workshops and conferences;
* Prepare workshop/conference reports;
* Participate and present papers in national and international
conferences on behalf of the organisation.
