AFRODAD is in search of a competent young man/woman to work as a Programme Officer for its Fair and Transparent Arbitration (FTA) Project. The position is a two year contract subject to renewal. The officer will be stationed at AFRODAD's Mulungushi, Lusaka office and will do the following duties among others:
Duties
Provide technical and secretariat back-up to a group of legal experts working on the FTA project.
Carry out desk research and documentation of the FTA issues.
Act as a link between the FTA office and the AFRODAD office in Harare.
Liaise with key project partners (donors, civil society groups, and international organizations within and outside Africa) and write progress and analytical reports.
Organise meetings/workshops related to the project, as well as ensure adequate media coverage (locally and internationally) of the meetings/workshops
Travel and represent AFRODAD in various international meetings within and outside Africa
Eligibility
It is expected that the Programme Officer be:
1. A person who has at least worked in the Debt/economic justice NGO sector for the last two/three years.
2. In addition to (1) above the applicant should be a holder of a BSc (honours) degree in development studies/economics/social studies/legal studies with a bias on arbitration issues). In the absence of two/three years’ experience, the person should have a Masters degree and have been exposed to global economic justice and debt debates/arbitration issues.
3. Be Familiar with current debt debates and economic justice campaigns
4. Should be able to easily work with government, donors and civil society.
5. Must be resident in Lusaka and have own means of transport.
6. Should be able to start working on the project as of 1st September 2005.
