Provincial journalist murdered

SOURCE: Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), New York

(CPJ/IFEX) - The following is a 10 July 2001 CPJ press release:

New York, July 10, 2001 ---

According to sources in Luanda, Gustavo was shot dead by provincial
vice-administrator Matias Kassoma after leaving a party on July 8. The
journalist's friends, who were with him at the time, reportedly attacked
Kassoma in reprisal for the murder and left him in critical condition.

CPJ asked President dos Santos to ensure that a prompt and thorough
investigation was conducted into Gustavo's murder. In the meantime, CPJ will
continue to research the incident.
