ERC-L is a bi-weekly e-mail newsletter about new resources for human
rights education and training on the web site of Human Rights Education
Associates (HREA). The Electronic Resource Centre consists of a Human
Rights Education Library, a Calendar which lists courses and trainings
worldwide, a Human Rights Education Links section and Databases of Human
Rights Education Funders, Material Developers, Organisations, and

## FEATURE ##
Data Analysis for Monitoring Human Rights
The handbook was developed by the Human Rights Program of the American
Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and HURIDOCS. It includes
chapters on why and how to use data to research human rights violations,
how to set up a database, data collection, analysis of data, presentation
of data. The manual includes exercises, suitable for staff of human rights
organisations, and the HURIDOCS standard database formats. Data Analysis
also includes instructions for use of the manual for self-study, in group
settings and in classrooms. The language of this electronic version is French.

Focus: The course aims at providing a profound insight into, and analysis
of, the system of international human rights protection in the light of
contemporary problems and relevant case law. The course is composed of
lectures, case studies in working-groups, seminars and individual essays.

* International Summer School in Forced Migration

Focus: The Refugee Studies Centre's International Summer School aims to
provide participants with a deeper and broader understanding of the forces
and institutions that generate, maintain, and influence responses to
displaced people. Participants will examine: different views of the nature
of forced migration; the historical context of forced migration and its
location within broader regional and global processes; the multifaceted
realities faced by forced migrants; and the character of current responses
to displacement.

* Summer Course "The Human Right to Food and Nutrition: Principles and
Policies"
Dates: 22 July-2 August 2002
Level: postgraduate, professional
Focus: The purpose of this course is to develop an understanding of the
human right to adequate food and nutrition, and to develop skills in
applying that understanding. Special attention will be given to the
international implications of nutrition rights, to clarify the obligations
not only of nation states but also of other parties such as international
agencies, transnational corporations, and international nongovernmental
organisations. The course will be preceded and followed by distance
learning modules via the Internet.
