ALIN Eastern Africa Mission
To improve the development practices of grassroots development workers in
the drylands Africa by facilitating the exchange of experiences among them,
and disseminating appropriate information in a usable form.
INFORMATION OFFICER
ALIN Eastern Africa, an International NGO involved in information exchange
activities among grassroots development workers in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania
and Ethiopia wishes to engage a long-term consultant. The position, based
in Nairobi with regular travels in the countries of operation will report
to the Regional Coordinator. S/he will join a team of knowledge workers and
information specialists to achieve set objectives.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Support in information management and dissemination using Information
and Communication Technologies (ICTs).
2. Train the target group on writing skills and the use of Information and
Communication Technologies (ICTs) such as Internet, e-mail, WorldSpace etc.
3. Coordinate collection and formatting of content for dissemination
through print and electronic media.
4. Build rapport with the print and electronic media to disseminate
information on dryland development.
5. Support the further development and updates of the website
6. Support documentation of case studies of information use.
REQUIREMENTS
· Degree in Journalism or Mass Communication or 1st degree in Social
Sciences coupled with a postgraduate diploma in Journalism or Mass
Communication.
· Ability to utilise a variety of multi-media tools in the dissemination of
information
· Self-motivated with the ability to work with minimum supervision
· A sound understanding of information exchange
· Strong oral and communication skills
· Ability to use MS Office and good publishing skills
· Good understanding of web publishing programs such as Dream weaver, Front
page
· At least two years experience in NGO or media related field.
· Excellent writing and documentation skills
· Flexibility to travel extensively
· Experience in fundraising will be an added advantage.
