RWANDA: VOA to launch radio station in Kigali this week

NAIROBI, 11 September (IRIN) - The public affairs section of the US embassy in Kigali will officially launch 24-hour broadcasting in Kinyarwanda, Swahili, French, and English on station 104.3 FM in Kigali on Friday, Rwanda News Agency (RNA) reported on Tuesday. Kigali becomes the second capital city in Africa to receive continuous FM broadcasts. In June, VOA launched continuous broadcasts in English and Swahili via 107.5 FM in Nairobi, Kenya. VOA plans to begin future FM broadcasts in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso; Brazzaville, Congo; Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire; and Bujumbura, Burundi.

VOA is a multimedia international broadcasting service funded by the US government that broadcasts over 900 hours of informational, educational and cultural programming weekly to an audience of some 91 million people worldwide. Programmes are produced and broadcast in English and 52 other languages.
