A one-week course on infectious disease modelling will be held in Pretoria between 2-6 September. Delegates will be introduced to the fundamental concepts, principles and theories that are used to develop models of infectious diseases in human populations, and there will be a specific focus on the application of these methods to the design and evaluation of vaccination programmes.

Professor Daniel Barth-Jones, from Wayne State University will be
visiting the School of Health Systems and Public Health at the Uni-
versity of Pretoria later this year. While in Pretoria he will de-
liver a 1 week course on infectious disease modelling between 2-6
September. Delegates will be introduced to the fundamental concepts,
principles and theories that are used to develop models of infectious
diseases in human populations, and there will be a specific focus on
the application of these methods to the design and evaluation of vac-
cination programmes.

existing knowledge of public health, statistics and epidemiology.
