The Government of Burkina Faso should immediately investigate allegations made by the Burkinabe Human and Peoples' Rights Movement(MBDHP) that 106 extra judicial executions have taken place over the past three months, Amnesty International said after raising its concerns to the government.

Three years ago, on 13 December 1998, Norbert Zongo, director of the weekly newspaper "L'Indépendant", was murdered on a road in southern Burkina Faso. RSF is stunned that the investigation is not progressing. The people behind the murder have not been troubled, thereby reinforcing the feeling that the justice system in Burkina Faso is seriously flawed.

Tagged "Local Voices: Covering the ICASA for your listener", the pre-ICASA journalism workshop aims to increase the quantity and quality of broadcast coverage in Africa of the ICASA and to leverage greater HIV/AIDS awareness and activism by participating journalists and media managers. About a dozen African radio journalists will attend the workshop which holds on 7-8 December 2001. Thereafter, participants will also be able to participate in the ICASA, also holding in Ouagadougou 9-13 December.

In Burkina Faso, 3,500 children orphaned by AIDS began school this week, thanks to a pilot project supported by the National HIV/AIDS Commission, UNDP and several donors.

Six private FM radio stations were licensed on Tuesday by Burkina Faso's communication commission, which regulates broadcasting in the West African country, PANA reported.
